04/23/26 Dream: At first this dream started with me in a movie theatre, I had just finished watching this Christopher Nolan-style Batman movie (I think it was supposed to be a new entry in the dark knight series) with my dad, and we were staying to watch the post-movie trailers. I remember seeing ads for “NHL 23,” which was apparently the newest hit movie, and focused on a drama plotline about a pro hockey player and teenage heartthrob named Steven Chill (or something like that) who tried to break the legs of the bullies of the opposing team, and sabotage the competition of a national hockey team to impress a girl. I usually wasn’t interested in sports movies, but I decided to ask my dad if we could come back to watch it sometime. He just looked at me frustrated though, and exasperatedly answered “what is with you and watching all these girly movies lately? You’re supposed to be a grown woman…” I then stammered for a coherent answer, trying to defend my habits to my dad, before then just quipping back “Dad… I feel young! Shut up!” After this, my dad didn’t seem angry about asserting dominance or anything, and instead he just put his hand over my mouth and pulled me closer to him, making me watch the rest of the closing ads. There were three more movies that I remember, one with Jason Momoa as Batman in a sequel to the dark knight called The Dark Knight III, in which the joker was cloned by an evil group of clowns and brought back to harass New York in the style of the Lego Batman joker, all the while the film was styled the same way as Nolan himself; the second was a movie called “NFL War,” which was a similar concept to the hockey movie from before in that it involved a teenager trying to win against crooked enemy teams, except it had a very spartan-like working class main character known as “Brock Stevens” who had very questionable morality, to the point where he was scarcely afraid to torture/maim other characters behind the scenes to maintain an illusion of fraternity, and was a tragic hero resembling Brad Armstrong from LISA instead of being an attractive football hero, even down to breaking the legs of the competition twice within the trailer; thirdly, there was some WWE biopic about the lives of Randy Savage, Vince McMahon, and Hulk Hogan, called some elaborate title like “WWE: The making of a legend,” but I can’t remember much about it other than the fact that it had Rawk Hawk’s theme music playing in the background, along with other Paper Mario TTYD music from time to time, and it used a ton of stock footage from their real lives interspersed through the staged movie footage as well; then, last but not least, there was one final trailer—which barely even counted as one—that was advertising the Super Mario Galaxy II movie, and along with that was a special arcade card at AMC theatres where if you swiped it, it would contain a virtual Yoshi avatar that would level up along with the more games you played on it and the number of opponents that you managed to beat, eventually going from modest stats like “Green Yoshi - Noob - Level 1” to impressive stats like “Dragon Yoshi - Pro - Level 21,” with new animations and would periodically issue you a new holographic rank card with updates to the art as well. I looked at my dad, asking him “Dad… you think I could get that arcade card before we leave?” To which he then halfheartedly pulled out a $20 and placed it in my hand, saying sarcastically “if you can find an employee and game card dispenser still open, then be my guest.” Ignoring his venom and sarcasm, I simply nodded, excitedly saying “thanks dad! Love you,” as I ran out of the theatres with the energy of a child in a sugar rush, ready to find an arcade machine. I left the theatre to a burst of color stinging my eyes, as the bright neon lights and glowing carpets stung my eyes more than usual. I somehow managed to still keep running while blind though, and by the time my eyes adjusted, I saw three Yoshi supported machines in front of me. When I tried to reach out to one of the technicians who was also wearing a Yoshi themed flannel and repairman cap set though, he just turned to me and said “Sorry, Young lady… you don’t get to be a mom today, I just closed this machine for the night.” I pouted at him, begging in a juvenile tone “Pleeeeease, can you open it up for just one more Yoshi?” The repairman only reacted by looking down at me and shaking his head condescendingly, as he told me in a similarly condescending voice “No can do, missy… check down that way before they close.” He then pointed deeper into the arcade, leading into more and more bright hallways. Now not wanting to lose my chance to get a Yoshi card, I started sprinting down the hallways for a good minute or two, being sure to dodge all the excited children along the way, as I tried to keep my eyes peeled for a Yoshi machine. I eventually reached a vestibule with a change machine, followed by a bigger room filled with a bunch of air hockey machines, allowing me to get a good enough vantage point to see one Yoshi Kiosk that was still very much open as a guy tinkered with the change slot. I was at my limit though, and I had to sit there with my hands on my knees for a while, panting like a race horse after taking home the gold medal. My lungs well and truly burned and the soles of my feet were on fire as well, as I just stood there in agony, hoping he wouldn’t close up early upon seeing me. Thankfully though, when he saw me finally recover and go to walk over to the machine, he was more friendly than the last guy. He bowed to me like an old timey butler, telling me “just don’t touch the change machine, dear,” as he stepped out of the way and quipped “I’ll just wait for you to redeem your card.” As I went to the machine and tapped “Start,” I instantly heard an exuberant “YOSHI” from the machine, before it then displayed a row of two Venus symbols, two mars symbols, and a gray circle symbol. The prompt above said “Choose parent configuration:” in very bubbly Yoshi text. I thought for a second, thinking to myself jokingly “This Yoshi is gonna grow up without a father…,” as I pressed one Venus symbol and one of the grey null symbols. It took me to another screen with a Yoshi sound, this one having a bunch of blank info boxes below a header reading “Enter Mom’s Details:,” to which I then put my chosen name, phone number, address, my primary hobbies & personality traits, along with even my name inside. I then clicked the next button, and I heard a very happy Yoshi voice say “thank youuuuu!” The machine then opened another screen saying “Add Father/Second Mother Details:,” only it was entirely greyed out, and even clicking on the boxes wouldn’t do anything. I shrugged, thinking “this must be a broken error handler,” as I tapped the next button twice to continue. This time it didn’t lead to another prompt though, and it just said “Generate your son” on the top of the screen, as it showed a while of colors and traits with a button simply reading “START.” Channeling the inner child in me used to playing Mario Party DS and getting very excited, I pressed the start button quite jovially, standing in an excited posture as I saw the wheels spin to life. I saw one of them had a bunch of scale colors, one of them had saddle colors, the other had eye colors, one had gender, and one final wheel at the end had types of patterns on it. I can’t remember much about the specific color or pattern options, but I do remember it nearly landed on an orange Yoshi with a stripy saddle that was female. I was underwhelmed at this outcome, but then it quickly shifted to a burgundy colored male Yoshi with an elegant purple solid color shadow. I felt that his color was a bit off, but like any child, I was sure he would grow into it and I would grow to love him even more for it. I then heard the machine start to whirr, before then spitting the custom holographic card out with such force that it nearly cut through my leggings. I winced, quickly reaching down past my black skirt to pick it up, and shoving it in the clear pocket of my wallet. I stared at the card for a second, now realizing in shock that his randomly generated name was “Ashton,” a perfect mirror of my name, “Ashley.” I smiled to myself, thinking “what divine luck is that?,” as I chuckled to myself at the apparent coincidence. I then went to go over to the time crisis machine to test out this Yoshi card, but before I could, my dad came out of nowhere and grabbed me by the wrist. He then started to lead me out of the theatre, scolding “You were gone for 20 minutes, girl…,” as we left the arcades rear exit into the car lot. I then was gonna ask my dad if he could come back and bring me to the arcade, but I didn’t wanna ask directly now that he was angrily, so I simply apologized “I’m sorry, dad… I didn’t realize it had been that long, I was just thinking about that movie I’d seen earlier.” My dad then looked at me confused, saying “What? Are you into sports movies now?” To which I then clarified, correcting him “no, I’m not generally into sports… it’s just the concept seemed interesting, and I thought of coming back to see it if I can make more money housekeeping.” My dad then nodded to me, smiling for a bit, as he seemed genuinely proud of me. As we approached his car though, he quickly steeled himself, instead telling me “no daughter of mine will have to be a housekeeper. I’ll pay for your ticket if you come to see The Dark Knight III with me.” I smiled and nodded, responding “you got it, dad!,” as I looked upon the full moon looming above us in pride, thinking how I both got to come back for the arcade and my hockey film now, but also got to see the new dark knight movie while I was at it. I then heard my dad unlock the car, which broke my gaze at the moon, causing me to hop inside the passenger seat out of instinct. I accidentally closed the hem of my skirt in the car door, but since I didn’t have pockets and it was a stretchy skirt, I just shrugged. Instead turning to my dad and asking in a thoughtful tone “You know… do you think Bane is gonna come back in the new movie? I remember he was thrown into that trash compactor after having his own back broken, at the end of the Dark Knight Rises… but there may be a chance he is still alive!” My dad just laughed though, quipping as he pulled out of the lot “Nah, I think Bane actually died… Not a chance his mask and breathing tube escaped intact, let alone him!” I then giggled for a little, telling him “geez dad, you really know your Batman lore…” to which he then responded by laughing to himself a little, before then damn near shoving his phone in my face to show me a new trailer for the Batman movie. This one showed Jason Momoa in the bat suit sans the mask that would’ve covered his face, now crawling through decrepit and bug filled sewer tubes & air vents, as he occasionally beat up scarecrow fear toxin hallucinations. This all had the background music and semi-uncanny AI movement of one of those Cyraxx music videos though, and it kinda freaked me out as I was watching it. This weird trailer continued for a while, until then, the screen went black and cheesy movie text came on screen reading “And now… The true test of survival begins.” Instead of showing Jason Momoa beating up the new Joker, making one face become two face, or any other of the millions of possible satisfying Batman movie trailer scenes though, it just mind-melded me into the setting of the movie. Suddenly, I was within the scarecrow fear tunnels, and surrounded by three other people and a talking cockroach. We talked for a while about the old world, only to find out that scarecrow had successfully destroyed the USA and conquered it, and we were in the bad ending timeline of the Batman movie where Batman hadn’t defeated the antagonists and freed the citizens of Gotham yet. We quickly found out that everyone had watched the trailer to end up here, except for the cockroach, who simply said that he reincarnated there after he died. We then started talking about the most effective ways to dodge insect traps, with heated brooms and jets of cold water generally being the most effective. The only traps we couldn’t escape were the wasp traps though, as bugs in this universe had the power of the slayer jackers from the hunger games, where they made you gradually more and more delirious—just like scarecrow himself—if you got stung by them. They also were a pain in the ass to destroy, unlike the ceramic jars of bees. We talked for a while about how to destroy them, only to figure out that the only real solution was to use a blue colored bug antidote spray which worked fast enough to murder them before they stung you. One of my comrades then handed me one as we went into the remains of an old greenhouse filled with tons of wasp nests. I held the can cautiously and went to step forward, only for the pipe we were crawling through to break, and scarecrow to suddenly yell “IT’S OVER, BITCH!” Through a loud intercom in a voice very reminiscent of Flowey the Flower’s evil voice within an undertale fandub. He then started laughing this evil witch laugh through the mic, which made the wasps grow even angrier as they started to swarm me. I then jolted awake in fear right as they started to touch me, still shaking as I jolted awake in my bed. I woke up hormonal from this dream, realizing that the progesterone had knocked me out cold for a couple of hours, but I hadn’t slept a full night because of waking up from this nightmare, obviously. I awoke with itchy skin and feeling very alone, needing comfort and cuddles after the terror of this dream. The shaking and fear subsided pretty quick though, surprisingly. Not sure exactly why… I did wake up noticing that it was the trough phase of my psuedocycle though, and my boobs felt very much flatter than usual, so that could explain the disturbing nature of my dream. I also awoke on my stomach, and I’ve heard that can cause nightmares too. All in all, it was a really unsettling and oppressive dream interspersed with brief moments of comfort, and with a lot of disparate elements that I’m not sure what to think about. FIN.
